Hilversum-Panthers vs RC ’t Gooi Colts
ts was a breezy day which made playing our way harder.
Warm up went well and we, John and myself already felt confident going in.
The match started well but we could not capitalise as we knocked on the ball at critical moments, but finally Hilversum-Panthers succumbed to the pressure and we went over for the first try. Then the dreaded moment happened, we tend to switch off after we score and did that again.
We got penalised at the break down for sealing off flopping over and gave them easy territory.
We repeatedly got penalised at the breakdown and were lucky not to be carded. Hilversum-Panthers opted for points.
Again Hilversum-Panthers came back strong and were knocking on the door, so John and I tried to get focus back. We tend to play against ourselves and not the opposition. Anyway it seemed to work and we came up with, what I would describe as the best 5 minutes of rugby our group of Colts has ever played; line out, maul, got 15 meters, forwards took it up and then the back line started rolling. Knocked on at the critical moment 3 meters out. Anyway we ended the half scoring again.
Second half we got some injuries so had to change it up a bit, we battled for the first 20 minutes, they scored another penalty. However we managed to hold onto the ball again and scored two tries. Then in the last minute we carried for a good 50 meters when Cedric chipped over the line for Lars to catch on the full and jog over for a well deserved 5 pointer, and victory of 6-25.
A real treat after months of Corona Lockdown; a great game with eager boys and a cheering audience of parents! John and I are looking forward to the next games with our Colts.
